In its first edition from Myanmar/Burma, the BBC Burmese audience-participation radio programme, LutLatt Ah Twe, SweyNwayPe Lair (Have Your Say), will bring together a wide cross-section of Burmese
youth to discuss what they hope the newly elected government will
achieve.
In a first for the programme, and as Myanmar’s new administration takes office on 1st
April, an audience of over 100 young people in Rangoon will talk
directly with a panel of experts, politicians and activists. Hosted by
the BBC Burmese journalist, ThetHtweNaing, this edition of LutLatt Ah
Twe, SweyNwayPe Lair invites young people to discuss what they expect
from the government they have elected – and what they themselves can do
to help their expectations come to pass.
Speaking about the new programme, Tin
HtarSwe, BBC Burmese Editor, said “We are thrilled to be bringing Have
Your Say from Myanmar for the first time. This is a pioneering format
for Burmese media, creating a unique opportunity for the youth to have a
direct conversation with the country’s movers and shakers, to voice
their views about how they see their country’s future. We really hope
that Burmese-speakers, wherever they are, tune in to this discussion and
take something constructive out of our programme.”
Using this opportunity for face-to-face
engagement with the country’s leading public figures, the audience will
talk about their experiences in the job market; empowering young people;
how the country’s education system should develop – and other issues
that matter to them.
The panel includes
Win Win Tint, President of Myanmar Retailers Association, ranked as one of Forbes’ 50 most powerful businesswomen in Asia.
Nay Phone Latt, a Burmese blogger and a
recipient of PEN/Barbara Goldsmith Freedom to Write Award, currently
serving as a member of Rangoon Region Parliament.
KhinHnin Kyi Tha, a social activist and Citizen of Burma Award recipient.
Zargana, a popular Burmese comedian, writer and film director.
ShweHtoo, a Burmese pop singer.
This edition of LutLatt Ah Twe, SweyNwayPe Lair will be recorded between 14.00 and 15.00 local time on Tuesday 29th
March and broadcast on BBC Burmese radio, the BBC Burmese YouTube
channel and Facebook page at 20.15 local time (13.45 GMT) on Saturday 2nd April.
